| GENERAL DESCRIPTION |
| HYDROCARE BROMAX SR is a solid composition for disinfecting water system which
would dissolve at a relatively slow rate so that the disinfectant will be released at a
controlled and uniform rate into the water system over an extended period of time.
Bromine is a powerful and effective disinfectant/sanitizer. Use it as an alternative to
chlorine.
Bromine was also proven by studies to be less expensive than chlorine sanitizers. When
it fuses with bacteria to kill it only parts of the chemical is consumed and burnt off
along with the bacteria. The remaining bromine can still do its job and repeat the whole
process of fusing with and killing bacteria. Much of the chlorine however is used up
when it combines with bacteria to disinfect it.
Chlorinated swimming pools can cause asthma, according to research from several
sources and this is the main reason for swimmers using pools are more prone to
Asthma than athletes in other sports. In swimming pools, the most obvious and instant
signs of high exposure to chlorine are red eyes, rashes and other skin irritations or
problems. And the highest exposure would appear to be for athletes and other
swimmers who exert themselves physically in the water.
HYDROCARE BROMAX SR is a safe so you will find that it is less harsh on skin, eyes,
hair and swimwear. It produces no chlorine odor, making it ideal for indoor pools.
Bromine is also perfect for use in hot tubs because its slow-dissolving formula performs
better in warmer temperatures. |

| WORKING PRINCIPLE |
| HYDROCARE BROMAX SR must be used in combination with an oxidizer such as sodium
hypochlorite or any chlorine releasing agent such as Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate or
Calcium Hypochlorite to produce hypobromous acid. Hypobromous acid controls bacteria
and algae and oxidizes organics. Hypobromous acid is a weak acid and therefore not
harmful to people. Bromine is not a strong enough oxidizer to oxidize or destroy ammonia
and nitrogen compounds in the water.
Once hypobromous acid destroys bacteria, algae or other organisms, or is destroyed itself
by sunlight it ends up as bromide ions. A strong oxidiser can "recharge" the bromide by
oxidising it back into hypobromous acid. Chlorine does not have this ability, once chlorine
is spent it cannot be reactivated like bromine.
The hypobromous acid combines with ammonia and nitrogen compounds in the water to
form bromamines. Bromamines are active sanitizers, and they do not have the foul-smell
of chloramines. |
| DOSAGE |
| HYDROCARE BROMAX SR can be dosed with the help of floating release devices
(dispensers). Water circulates through the release device and gradually erodes the solid
composition releasing hypobromous acid to serve as the disinfectant in the water
system.Previously untreated pool or spa should start dosing of sodium bromide to build up
a residual bank (up to 8 ppm of hypobromous acid). This reserve bank cuts down on
bromine consumption later. The bromine residual should be maintained between 2-4 ppm. |
| SAFETY AND HANDLING |
| HYDROCARE BROMAX SR is safe to handle but solution would be a strong salt solution.
Protective clothing, rubber gloves and eye protection are recommended. Rubber safety
boots should also be worn in work areas. This product should be handled in areas with
proper ventilation. |
